WATCH is a weekend retreat for spiritual renewal, with a focus on two key relationships: our individual relationship with God in Christ, and our relationships with each other through Christ.
This priority is essential. It is easy for churches today to emphasize one relationship at the expense of the other. The truth is we are a Grace-filled people who stand on the solid rock of Christ and realize that all of our human relationships are, and must be, based upon our relationship with God in Christ. We are a people saved by Grace, through Faith, in Christ alone.
WATCH offers you:
The WATCH retreats are co-ed weekends open to people post-high school age and above. These WATCH weekends are typically scheduled once a year and are held at various locations. Meals are included. The retreats begin at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and conclude by 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lutheran WATCH ministry is overseen by the WATCH Steering Committee, a group of laypersons representing different Lutheran congregations in the Greater Peoria Area and supervised by an ordained minister. The WSC meets monthly to evaluate the needs of the ministry, make necessary changes, schedule retreat weekends, pray for guidance in choosing retreat leaders and provide resources for the weekend.
Planning for the ministry began in the late 1980s at Trinity Lutheran Church. The first retreat, WATCH No. 1, was conducted in October 1991. The WATCH ministry is now sponsored by Christ Lutheran Church.
